There is no extra fabric and is nice and tight on the seats. I have an 89 Honda Civic and raised the head-rests to the highest level, which made it fit perfectly. Easily installed; took less than 5 minutes and hooks together and invisibly. I even washed them and came out just as nice as they did the first time I took them out of the package.
